Alex & David’s Supported Internship Journey

Learners Alex and David first started their Supported Internship journey with a mock interview with Worksop employer Laing O’Rourke here on the Portland campus.

Following their successful interviews, both learners delivered a workshop on neurodiversity in the workplace to raise awareness with their new work colleagues.

David works as a key member of the facilities team at Laing O’ Rourke. Some of the tasks David has been completing involve booking rooms, security, hospitality bookings, supporting the domestic teams and giving tours. It is quite a multi-purpose role and David has been able to build on several skills and become a key member of the team. David is increasing his knowledge across different areas including IT skills, social interaction, problem solving, time management, team work and planning.

Alex is a key member of the stores team and participates in several tasks in the department including ordering goods, re stocking equipment, delivering products around the department independently and using the computer systems.

Alex is increasing his skills and knowledge around IT, numeracy, independence, communication and organisational skills, and has become more self aware by projecting his voice to support his social interaction and has grown in confidence and his motivation in his work.
